DISCIPLESHIP
What is discipleship at renew?
RENEW EXISTS TO MAKE DISCIPLES WHO ARE RENEWED BY THE GOSPEL AND BECOME GOSPEL RENEWAL TO THE CITY.
Renew exists to make disciples as Jesus commands, “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.” (Matt 28:19-20)
At Renew, being a disciple of Jesus means following him and helping others do the same. In Santa Monica (and the greater Los Angeles area) being disciples happens in the context of a diverse community making it a unique experience and expression of the Gospel and spiritual family. As we grow together and become more like Jesus, we become Gospel renewal to our city. Discipleship is not a program or department, to us it’s relationship.
-
WE ARE TRANSFORMED FROM ENEMIES OF GOD TO CHILDREN OF GOD.
DISCIPLES ARE BORN AGAIN THROUGH JESUS INTO AN ETERNAL, LOVING RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD.
-
WE ARE TRANSFORMED FROM STRANGERS TO THE FAMILY OF GOD.
DISCIPLES ARE A VITAL PART OF THE CHURCH, THE BODY OF CHRIST, WHERE THEY MATURE TOGETHER INTO JESUS.
-
WE ARE TRANSFORMED FROM BEING OF THE WORLD TO BEING SENT INTO THE WORLD AS SALT AND LIGHT.
DISCIPLES ARE EMPOWERED AND COMMISSIONED TO MAKE DISCIPLES OF ALL NATIONS, BAPTIZING THEM IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER, SON, AND SPIRIT.
Discipleship at Renew
A disciple at Renew is someone who follows Jesus and is renewed UP, ACROSS & OUT by the Gospel.
DISCIPLESHIP groups at renew
We are committed to discovering meaningful and creative ways to help people love and follow Jesus wholeheartedly—and to equip them to share that same transformative journey with others. At Renew, we offer several pathways for growth, including Discipleship Groups, classes, mentoring, One2One relationships, and opportunities to serve.
Over time, we’ve come to believe that discipleship happens best in small, intentional communities. That’s why our Discipleship Groups are the primary place where we encourage one another, practice spiritual rhythms, and grow as followers of Jesus.

discipleship group?
Why join a discipleship group?
Jesus preached to crowds but seemed to disciple in smaller group settings.
Relationships form deeper and faster in small groups rather than large crowds.
We were never called to walk with Jesus alone but along with other Christians.
You can grow as a disciple through the wisdom and experiences of others.
Jesus calls all Christians to make disciples and at Renew, Discipleship Groups are the primary environment for that to happen.
